Welcome to the wonderful world
of motherhood and babies!
What can be more splendid than the joy of creating a new life, nurturing
it through birth and childhood and then enjoying the full revelation of
your child growing into a healthy, happy person?
My mother recently told me that
she thought she’d never live to see the joyful day of grandchildren much
less great-grandchildren. I
know what she means. When
we’re expecting a baby, we’re caught up in the process of watching our
waistlines expand and our clothing shrink.
Unless it’s by choice through ultra-sound, we wonder whether it
will be a boy or girl. Did
someone tell you about the ring thing? You know...dangle a ring on a string in front of your tummy
and whether it swings back and forth or makes a circle will tell you the
sex of the baby. I don’t
recall which way it’s supposed to be and understand that it’s a myth, but
it was fun anyway. I was glad when morning sickness passed!
We weren’t aware of Rooibos, Honeybush or Preggie Pops back then.
We ate crackers, drank peppermint and hoped for the day to pass
quickly.
After we give birth, we’re busy
trying to get the new motherhood system organized and down pat, get into
the swing of a new social strata, and be the perfect female icon.
We want our babies to be comfortable, nutritionally satisfied,
healthy, dry, and smelling like baby lotion.
The anxiety of colic, diaper rash and strange-looking spots on
baby’s skin is often discussed in baby trade magazines but I never found a
good solution without using some sort of medicated product.
Imagine my sense of failure to learn my baby was allergic to its
mother’s milk. If I’d only
known what the mothers from Cape Town South Africa knew! I do now.

At the Carnelian Rose Tea Co.
store, mothers and grandmothers are buying and drinking Rooibos, Honeybush
and other child-friendly herbs.
It gives us a good chance to hear their feedback and it’s all been good.
We have a lot of walk-in
customers who have read about Rooibos and Honeybush on other web sites or
their doctor, mid-wife or naturopath has recommended one of our herbal
teas to them.
